Print Training for your Design Team

After a decade as a prepress operator in Print factories in New Zealand, I’ve seen it all.

It’s time to upskill your team, stop losing time & money to costly print mistakes. Those client relationships are too important to have the ‘that wasn’t the colour we approved’ chat.

Your designers may be talented but if print isn't their background, even the best creative work can fall apart the moment it leaves the screen. Wrong colour profiles, missing bleeds, incorrect file setups these aren't small issues. They cause delays, reprints, and strained relationships with supplier and client alike.

Based in Christchurch and working with teams across New Zealand, I offer practical, no-fluff print training for designers, in-house marketing teams, and creative agencies who want to ensure they get their print files right every time. Whether on-site at your studio or delivered virtually, each session is tailored to the real problems your team is actually facing.

After your session, your team will:

  • Stop sending incorrect files to print (and driving your printers nuts) and the costly reprints that come with them

  • Communicate confidently with print suppliers and actually understand what they're asking for

  • Know how to colour-manage work correctly from screen to paper

  • Spec and buy print smarter, saving time and budget

Most importantly they'll have the confidence to handle print briefs without second-guessing every decision.

This isn't a rinse & repeat type training. We’ll touch base and discuss the issues you may be having so I can tailor a training session to your particular needs.

Ideal for:

  • Creative & Design Agencies

  • In-House Marketing Teams

  • Small Businesses with In-house designers

If your team touches print in any way then this is for you.

Common Issues that cause mistakes

Print File Setup & Preparation The fundamentals that trip up even experienced designers bleed, trim, safe zones, resolution, dieline handling, overprinting, knockout, ink limits and correct setup of print finishes and also why what looks great on screen doesn't always translate to paper.

Colour for Print RGB vs CMYK, spot colours, Pantone matching, and how to avoid the dreaded "that's not the colour I approved" conversation with your client.

Choosing the Right Stock & Finish Paper weights, coated vs uncoated, laminates, spot UV, embossing understanding the options so you can spec jobs correctly and advise clients with confidence.

Working With Printers How to communicate clearly with print suppliers, what they actually need from you, how to read and approve proofs, and how to avoid the mistakes that damage those relationships.

Preflight & Quality Checking How to check your own files before they go out the door so you can catch errors early so nothing comes back to bite you later.

Print Buying Basics Understanding quotes, print processes (digital vs offset vs large format), turnaround times, and how to get the best result for your budget.

We’re not going to just talk about these things, I’m going to run you through live how these things should be done based on what you’re trying to achieve.

Why Train With Me?

This isn't training delivered by someone who learned print from a textbook.

I spent 10 years working as a prepress operator inside New Zealand print companies being hands-on, on the floor, solving the exact problems your designers are facing right now. I completed a three-year apprenticeship in digital print with PrintNZ back in 2010, followed by a Certificate in Print Management in 2012, also with PrintNZ.

That real-world experience is what makes these sessions different. I'm not teaching theory, I'm sharing what actually works and how to troubleshoot real problems, what printers actually need, and what actually goes wrong. So your team gets knowledge that's immediately useful the moment they're back at their desks all combined with a bit of banter of course. If you want to find out a bit more about me find me on Linkedin or the about page.
